Cristina holds a Master of Education in Counselling, a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in special education and a Bachelor of Arts with a major in English. With over 20 years in high school education, she is well versed in working with teenagers and parents alike. Cristina uses a person centred approach and often works through the lens of psychoeducation while using somatic practices to help achieve balance between body and mind.

Cristina is committed to helping children, youth, and adults work through life stressors such as relationships, divorce, big life decisions and addiction, to name a few. She is passionate about helping youth and families navigate the school years when bumps arise. She loves helping parents and youth sort out new diagnoses and manage change. She believes that neurodiversity and diversity are part of what makes life and people so beautiful, and she helps families learn to celebrate all their unique qualities.

Cristina is available for parent coaching, IEP development, school and home collaboration and group therapy alongside individual and family counselling. In a session with me, you will find yourself in a safe place where laughter and humility work alongside deep connection. I work to know the person behind the words and allow that authentic self to shine through my client and myself, allowing for honest, gentle growth and healing. Together, we can discover what you need, develop goals and build strategies to meet these goals.

I grew up in an Ecuadorian-Canadian family and love cooking Ecuadorian food for my family. I have spent much of my life travelling and experiencing culture, and I love the richness diversity brings. I’m a ridiculously proud mom of two amazing neurodiverse young adults who taught me much about life. Whether walking the North Shore trails with friends and dogs, exercising, reading or trying out a new recipe, you’ll find me laughing and joking while I do it. I can’t wait to meet you and learn your story!

You’re looking for the right help for you or a loved one and have come to the right place. Life’s hard when we don’t have the right kind of support. It makes all the difference when you have someone that gets you. I am here to help. I work with anxiety, trauma, PTSD, family relationships, parenting, ADHD, learning disabilities, and intimate relationships. In other words, situations that can feel overwhelming and tiring as you struggle to cope.

I have always worked with people of all ages. My passion is helping people deeply understand themself and their situation, especially those who have struggled and feel like they have not found the right support or answers that fit. I also have an affinity for working with children and youth. Children speak a language that we often forget. They are desperate to be heard and understood, but aren’t we all?

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville Univerisity and am a student in their Doctorate of Counselling and Psychotherapy Program (research area: Shame). I directly supervise our highly experienced and knowledgeable counselling interns.

I seek to support individuals as they navigate a variety of life’s challenges; relationships, grief and loss, life transitions, managing expectations and finding ways to live and be proud of who we are and how we show in the world even when it’s hard. I endeavor to create a space that fosters psychological and emotional safety where my clients feel empowered to grapple with and explore topics that are deeply personal and meaningful to them.

A focal point of my work is supporting individuals with neuro-diversities, which include autism, intellectual disabilities, learning differences, and ADHD. I take a family systems approach and understand that each individual is part of a larger system and emotional unit that impacts so much of who we are and how we grow. I am available for parent coaching with respect to setting boundaries, following through with behaviour expectations, supporting home and school collaboration, IEP development and goal setting.

I am currently completing a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Yorkville University. I hold a Master’s in Special Education from UBC and am a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst. I have worked in the public school system for the past 10 years and am dedicated to supporting inclusive education to foster the growth and learning of all individuals, from the students themselves to their entire support systems.

Every person has a unique experience and a different life story to tell. Therefore, I use a variety of therapeutic approaches that are tailored to each individual and their needs. You can expect to have in-depth, non-judgmental conversations with me as we identify your mental health challenges and work together to overcome them. Some approaches used are existential therapy, experiential art therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and strength-based therapy.

I am passionate about helping individuals overcome struggles in life, particularly anxiety and depression, grief and loss, and problems in relationships with loved ones, friends, or colleagues. I also want to assist those who feel they need help with substance use issues and feel uniquely trained to do this based on my neuroscience background. Additionally, I want to counsel individuals experiencing anxiety and depression associated with neurogenerative disorders and other illnesses.

I have a Ph.D. in pharmacology and toxicology and postdoctoral training in neuroscience. I have been teaching various topics in pharmacology and neuroscience and conducting research in neurodegenerative diseases and substance use for two decades.

I am a life-long learner and enjoy reading about a variety of topics. I also enjoy novels and the imagination that they bring about the world. I am passionate about visual arts and social justice issues and have conducted volunteer work in these areas for many years. I am an avid outdoors person and walk every day. Otherwise, you’ll see me on hiking trails, on a bike, in a kayak, or on cross-country skis or snowshoes in the winter.
